Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes held meetings with United at Carrington on Tuesday, but his position remains unchanged and he wants to play for a club in the Champions League and win major trophies.

United do not want him to go, however, and Ronaldo has started training with the team having missed the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to family reasons.

His potential options elsewhere are limited. Chelsea are not an option anymore, while Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid appeared to publicly rule themselves out this week.

However, his exit is not so easy. On the one hand, Manchester United do not want to allow their top player to leave in this transfer market. At least that is what their coach Erik ten Hag suggested when he was asked about it.

However, it is striking that Ronaldo has not attended the pre-season tour with Manchester United. A dispute that only heightens the tension in what is set to be one of the summer’s ‘soap operas’.

“The situation is the same as last week. Maybe worried is not the right word. I’m focusing on the players who are here, who are doing very well, who are in good shape and I will focus on that,” Ten Hag declared.

“I can’t wait to see if Ronaldo comes, but if he does, we will integrate him into the team.”

The other problem would be the Portuguese’s salary. According to Ben Jacobs, the striker receives a salary of 435,000 euros a week, an amount difficult for many teams to afford.

However, the same journalist reveals that Ronaldo would be willing to reduce his salary by up to 30 percent to join Atletico Madrid.

Ronaldo has rocked new boss Erik ten Hag with his demand to quit Old Trafford this summer because he wants to compete for trophies, though there are few clubs who could afford his astronomical £500,000-a-week salary.

PSG are one of the clubs armed with the power to bring Ronaldo in, but even a side with the financial might of the French giants would struggle to secure such a deal, according to ESPN – who claim the club rejected the opportunity after talks between president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the player’s agent Jorge Mendes.

Al-Khelaifi and Mendes have a close relationship and met this summer after the latter offered his client to the Ligue 1 champions.

But PSG believe they do not have enough room in their wage budget to accommodate Ronaldo, and also fear they would not even be able to fit him into the current squad because it is already filled with names like Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar.

They also believe Ronaldo would not be the right signing at this time, the report goes on, with PSG entering a new era following a hierarchical shuffle after agreeing new terms with Mbappe.

Thomas Tuchel reluctant to back Chelsea’s pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is determined to leave Manchester United this summer and one of the likeliest destinations for the Portuguese is fellow Premier League club Chelsea. Todd Boehly, their new owner, wants to sign him. But Thomas Tuchel isn’t quite so sure.

Cristiano’s quality is undoubted but the reality is that the current incarnation of the 37-year-old requires the team he’s playing for to be restructured to accommodate him. Tuchel prefers a more dynamic attack according to The Daily Mail and Marca.

Chelsea are on the verge of completing the signing of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City and that kind of profile of player is thought to be more in line with Tuchel’s preferences than an ageing superstar like Cristiano. It may put a halt to the move.

Cristiano is determined to play Champions League football next season and United can’t offer him that having just finished sixth in 2021/22. They’ll be playing Europa League football in 2022/23.

United’s public message has been that Ronaldo is not for sale following his failure to turn up for pre-season training for four days in a row. He has cited family reasons, an explanation the club accepts.

The final decision will lie with Ronaldo, leaving the door open for him to change his mind and stay at Old Trafford.

Sky Sports News has been told Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has spent the past few weeks selling the ‘Cristiano effect’ to clubs having compiled a dossier of his client’s immense sponsorship, social media and ‘new markets’ influence.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is among the executives to listen to the pitch and is considering a move, with the Blues having also discussed a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar.

The 37-year-old stunned United last week when he told the club he wishes to leave if they receive a suitable offer for him this summer amid his concerns that the Red Devils are not moving forward quickly enough.

The Portuguese forward still ‘has an affinity for the club’ but at this stage of his career, he wants to be playing in the Champions League and does not see that happening at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo did not report for training on Monday due to family reasons but Sportsmail reported on Sunday that he will hold talks with Erik ten Hag upon his return as he looks to resolve his future.

United insist he is not for sale and have underlined that he is under contract for another year, although new boss Ten Hag is indifferent to whether he stays, hopeful that his departure would help fund other transfers.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, has been talking to clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Napoli over recent weeks to test whether there is a market for his client but no agreement is in place as it stands.

Portuguese sports daily Record claim Ronaldo wants to leave after only one season back at Old Trafford as he fears new boss Erik ten Hag does not have the right tools to compete for titles, while he is also said to be frustrated with the club’s transfer window so far.

However, it is understood the 37-year-old is expected to return for pre-season preparations once back from his summer holidays, which will be slightly extended due to his involvement with Portugal in their three opening Nations League fixtures in June.

A report in Spanish daily AS that Bayern Munich are interested in signing Ronaldo if Robert Lewandowski joins Barcelona is also wide of the mark, according to Sky in Germany.

It is understood that Ronaldo does not fit Bayern’s transfer philosophy, while the club are still trying to persuade Lewandowski to see out the final year of his contract despite Barcelona’s €40m (£34.4m) offer for the Poland striker.

Cristiano Ronaldo is looking for a way out of Manchester United

La Republicca just released an explosive report about Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential future.

They are saying Manchester United might no longer be within the Portuguese star’s future for a specific reason. With Erik ten Hag’s arrival, the Red Devils are about to make massive changes in the team’s style of play that doesn’t fit with Ronaldo’s position on the pitch.

According to this report, Ten Hag is looking to modify the structure in order to fit the classic Dutch style of play he used at AFC Ajax. Cristiano doesn’t agree with this, according to La Republicca and he would be willing to leave the institution. Chances of playing at a different club point at a possible return to Sporting Clube Lisbon, where Ronaldo’s career started. However, nothing is set in stone yet.

Other reasons Ronaldo could leave Man United.

For Cristiano Ronaldo, being able to continue playing the UEFA Champions League is absolutely essential for him. Manchester United finished the 2021-22 Premier League season with a measly 58 points and in sixth place, which leaves them out of the tournament for next season. With only a year left on his contract, Cristiano can definitely use this as the main reason to leave the club this summer.
