Alphonso Davies reveals Lionel Messi rejected offer of a shirt swap. Bayern Munich star admits he asked his idol for his shirt.
Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies claimed that Lionel Messi refused to swap shirts with him after their Champions League quarter-final last week because he was too upset.
The Canadian defender starred as Bayern thumped Barcelona 8-2 last week, with the German club sealing their spot in the Champions League final with a 3-0 semi-final win over Lyon on Wednesday night.
Davies admitted that he did try to get a souvenir from his favourite player, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Speaking after the Lyon win, Davies said: ‘I asked for it (Messi’s shirt). But I think he was a little bit upset. Next time, maybe.’
Under UEFA guidelines, players are advised not to swap shirts due to coronavirus health and safety concerns.
