Timo Werner opens up on private chats with Frank Lampard. Chelsea secured the signature thanks in part to Frank Lampard’s private chats with the star.
Werner has opened up about the impact Frank Lampard had on his decision to sign for the Blues this summer, and indicated that he might not have signed for them if the boss hadn’t put in the effort he did to sign him.
He will join Chelsea this week after the Blues forked out £53million for his services.
Speaking to BILD, he explained that he wanted to feel as home at his next club as he did during his Leipzig days.
“The discussions with those responsible at Chelsea were so good that I ultimately chose Chelsea,” Werner said.
“The coach in particular stood behind me and really wanted me to know that I was going to Chelsea, so I can feel just as comfortable as here.”
“In the conversations with me, the coach often emphasized how much he wanted me, how much he valued me as a person.”
“Of course it’s hard to give up an oasis of wellbeing like the one I’ve had in Leipzig for years, but you can only get ahead in a career if you take the next step.”
