Manchester United begin talks to sign van de Beek. Manchester United have reportedly edged ahead of Real Madrid in the race to sign Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek this summer.
According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Manchester United begin talks to sign van de Beek this week.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have opened talks with the 23-year old. United hopes to benefit from the financial uncertainty surrounding Real Madrid due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ajax prefer a quicker sale and the report claims that the positive relationship between Edwin van der Sar, who is Ajax’s chief executive, and United could work in the Premier League club’s favour.
United would be keen to secure a lower fee than €50m (£44.5m) for Van de Beek but Van der Sar has warned that the 23-year-old will not be sold at a reduced rate.
Real Madrid were heavily linked with a move for the Dutch international 12 months ago, after failing in their pursuit of United star Paul Pogba.
