Erling Braut Haaland narrows list of suitors down to just six clubs

Erling Braut Haaland narrows list of suitors down to just six clubs. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are among clubs to interest striker.

Chelsea ‘have no chance’ of signing Erling Braut Haaland with the deadly striker only attracted to six clubs if he leaves Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

The 20-year-old would reportedly only sign for Liverpool, Manchester City or Manchester United in the Premier League, while he is also interested in Real Madrid, Barcelona or Juventus.

The Norwegian is one of the hottest properties in world football and has scored an astonishing 33 goals in 31 matches for club and country so far this season.

According to Sport Bild, Haaland has narrowed his suitors down to the half-a-dozen mentioned, discounting Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

The report says Haaland only want to join ‘an absolute top club’ and this suggests Chelsea doesn’t fall into this category in his view.

It comes after reports Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was willing to splash the cash to being the top-class striker to Stamford Bridge.

Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola said last month that only 10 clubs in world football can afford to sign Haaland, with four of them in the Premier League. These would be the two Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Bild say the striker is an admirer of Real Madrid’s ‘charisma and strength’ with the Spanish giants in need of a long-term successor for 33-year-old Karim Benzema.

The reason why Josep Maria Bartomeu have been arrested

The reason why Josep Maria Bartomeu have been arrested. These arrests relate to the case which has become known as ‘Barçagate’.

It is news that has rocked Spanish football on Monday with several senior officials at Barcelona arrested including the club’s former president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Bartomeu – who resigned from his position in October – had headed the Blaugrana for six years and was reportedly arrested at his home on Monday morning.

The Catalan police force Mossos have confirmed that multiple arrests have been made but have not yet named any individuals, however, widespread reports claim Bartomeu and three senior officials at the Camp Nou have been detained.

The major Barcelona news saw the club’s offices raided on Monday with CEO Oscar Grau, head of legal Roman Gomez Ponti and Jaume Masferrer – said to be Bartomeu’s former right-hand man – all reportedly arrested.

But why have they been arrested by the police?

As highlighted by Guillem Balague, the arrests are on the basis of unfair administration, corruption between individuals and money laundering as the club’s finance, legal and compliance departments are investigated.

More specifically, these arrests relate to the case which has become known as ‘Barçagate’ – in which the club hired a third company to defame their rivals, both inside and outside the club, in the media.

Last year, Cadena Ser’s El Larguero show revealed documents from Barcelona which appeared to show the club paying a third party to damage the reputation of individuals.

Whilst all those reports were denied by the club, in September, El Mundo reported that the payments processed by the club to the company I3 Ventures were six times higher than their market value.

This triggered suspicions of corruption and a lengthy investigation into the situation, leading to Monday’s arrests.

Last year, Emili Rousaud was one of two vice-presidents and six board members to resign from their positions and he later claimed individuals in senior positions of power at the Camp Nou were seeking to use the club for personal profit.

David Beckham keeps hopes up for Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

David Beckham keeps hopes up for Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Inter Miami CF will do anything they can to sign them.

Inter Miami CF is preparing their sophomore year in Major League Soccer and they have one of the most expensive rosters in the entire league for the 2021 season.

The campaign is set to start in mid-April and their pre-season started a few weeks ago under new manager Phil Neville who will coach in MLS for the first time in his career.

David Beckham is the co-owner of the Miami franchise and he already landed big names like Rodolfo Pizarro, Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuaín last season. This year he was able to bring in former Stoke City captain, Ryan Shawcross, for the 2021 MLS season and he wants to keep bringing superstars to the team, like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I have said from day one that our academy system is a massive part of this club and if we can bring players through here that have lived and breathed Inter Miami then that is the goal,” Beckham told AFP.

“But we also know that being in Miami, our fans want to see the big stars. We already have players like Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi who add to the glitz and glamour but also in the future we want to have the opportunity to bring some great names in.”

“We always want to bring in great players. Miami is a great pull for anyone and those kinds of players like Messi and Ronaldo are the kind we aspire to bring here. So whatever player we talk to, we have to make sure that is a priority,” he added.

Spanish La Liga results: Atletico Madrid win to maintain lead

Spanish La Liga results: Atletico Madrid win to maintain lead. While Real Madrid will play at home to Real Sociedad on Monday.

La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid secured a vital 2-0 win away to Villarreal on to reaffirm their title ambitions following a difficult run of results.

Diego Simeone’s side were smarting from twin defeats to Levante and Chelsea but went ahead in the 25th minute courtesy of an Alfonso Pedraza own goal following a goalmouth scramble, the strike being flagged offside then given after a VAR review.

Atletico survived another video review just before half-time when Thomas Lemar was shown a yellow card rather than a red for elbowing an opponent before record signing Joao Felix came off the bench to double their lead in the 69th on the volley.

A first win in four games in all competitions moved Atletico on to 58 points after 24 games, five clear of second-placed Barcelona, who have played 25 games, and six above third-placed Real Madrid.

Elche dropped deeper into relegation trouble as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Granada, for whom Antonio Puertas scored a 79th-minute winner.
