David Alaba transfer news: the Austrian wants to play in midfield position

David Alaba transfer news: the Austrian wants to play in midfield position. Meanwhile, PSG are also monitoring Gini Wijnaldum’s situation.

David Alaba is set to be one of the big summer signings. After announcing that he will be leaving Bayern Munich in a press conference last week, several European clubs have taken an interest in his situation – among them, Real Madrid and PSG, perhaps the principal favourites to sign the highly-rated centre-back on a free transfer.

However, while both clubs view Alaba as a reinforcement to their defence, the 28-year-old could end up doubling up in a supporting role in midfield.

According to reports in French daily Le Parisien, Alaba has made the option of playing in midfield one of the conditions which must be accepted while he studies offers. David Alaba transfer news

It’s the position where he feels most comfortable and his versatility means he can play in central defence, as well as at left-back – attributes which have enabled him to play many games in different positions during his career.

UEFA Europa League results: AC Milan scrape past Red Star

UEFA Europa League results: AC Milan scrape past Red Star. The 2020/21 UEFA Europa League has moved into the knockout stages.

Franck Kessie’s penalty proved enough, but Milan only scraped past 10-man Red Star Belgrade on away goals thanks to a stunning Gianluigi Donnarumma save.

The first leg of this Europa League Round of 32 ended 2-2 in Belgrade, with the Serbians twice battling back to equalise, even after a red card. Milan Rodic was therefore suspended, with Aleksandar katai and Veljko Nikolic injured, while the Rossoneri missed Ismael Bennacer and Mario Mandzukic.

The deadlock was broken in contentious circumstances, because Rade Krunic had shinned his shot horribly and it went practically sideways, striking Marko Gobeljic on the arm. Nonetheless, VAR and the referee decided it was worthy of a penalty, converted coolly by Franck Kessie. He dedicated the goal to Willy Ta Bi, the Atalanta youth player who replaced him in Bergamo and died this week from cancer at 21.

Ben Nabouhane had the ball in the net on 19 minutes, but it was only after Pankov had handled in order to provide the assist.

It was all Red Star after that penalty, as Ben Nabouhane saw his free kick bounce off the crossbar with Gianluigi Donnarumma beaten, then he drilled in the deserved equaliser from a tricky angle with his left foot after running onto the Ivanic through ball.

There was a huge Borjan save on Diogo Dalot, sticking out a leg to parry when the ball was rolled across from the right to find the defender totally unmarked.

Kanga blasted not far wide from 30 metres out and Krunic was inches away from another penalty, brought down right on the edge of the area.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ante Rebic came on for the second half, but they should’ve combined for a goal, the Swede knocking down a Hakan Calhanoglu cross only for Rebic to prod wide from six yards.

Ivanic saw his strike deflected to flash across the face of goal and Ben Nabouhane had penalty appeals rejected for a Samu Castillejo nudge.

Gianluigi Donnarumma on his 22nd birthday made one of the saves of his career, somehow clawing the ball off the line when Sanogo had volleyed from a couple of yards, then the rebound was somehow fired off target by Gobeljic.

It went from bad to worse for Gobeljic moments later, as he received a second yellow card for a foul on Calhanoglu and, just like the first leg, Red Star went down to 10 men.

Alexis Saelemaekers had the ball in the net, but only after Ibrahimovic was offside on the assist. Yet again, Red Star continued to threaten even after the red card, Katai hitting the side-netting from a very promising position.

While Rebic managed to waste two counter-attacks, Red Star pinned Milan back to the very last second of the tie, going out on away goals.

Thomas Muller back in Bayern Munich training after COVID isolation

Thomas Muller back in Bayern Munich training after COVID isolation. He has 13 goals and 11 assists so far, and has created 81 chances.

Thomas Muller returned to training at Bayern Munich on Thursday after the COVID-19 positive test that caused him to miss the Club World Cup final.

The all-action attacking midfielder was dealt his coronavirus blow just hours before Bayern beat Tigres UANL 1-0 to be crowned club world champions in Qatar on February 11, forcing him to self-isolate.

After two weeks away from the squad, and now clear of the virus, Muller was back at the club’s training headquarters to be put through his paces.

Muller is enjoying a stellar season and is one of just six players from Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues to have reached double figures both in goals and assists across all competitions.

He has 13 goals and 11 assists so far, and has created 81 chances in all.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho is the only other player from the Bundesliga to achieve the double to date, after 10 goals and 12 assists.

Erling Haaland hails Robert Lewandowski’s crazy goalscoring

Erling Haaland hails Robert Lewandowski’s crazy goalscoring. The Borussia Dortmund striker expressed praise for his rival across the aisle.

Borussia Dortmund star striker Erling Haaland has revealed his admiration for Robert Lewandowski’s “crazy” goalscoring exploits and acknowledged he can learn a lot from Bayern Munich’s prolific marksman.

Haaland has hit the ground scoring since his January 2020 arrival in Germany, and has netted 17 times in as many Bundesliga appearances this season.

But the 20-year-old still finds himself trailing Lewandowski by some distance with the Bayern man having struck an incredible 26 times in 21 top-flight games for the European champions in 2020/21.

“That man is crazy. He is just crazy,” Haaland told Norwegian TV. “When I score I score a goal it’s like ‘One goal closer to catching up to him’. And then he just scores another hat-trick like it’s an everyday thing. What he does is so crazy.”
