Ronaldinho to finally end five-month Paraguay prison hell. He offers to pay £70,000 to escape trial as reparation of social damage.

Ronaldinho is set to finally bring his five-month Paraguay prison hell to an end and make a return to his native Brazil.

The football legend was caught up in a scandal in March, after he attempted to enter Paraguay with fake documents along with his brother.

A series of trials followed, as Ronaldinho was placed in a Paraguay prison where he ended up spending his 40th birthday, before later being released on house arrest.

Now Ronaldinho is set to make a return to his homeland, after paying a fee amounting to £70,000 in order to avoid further trial, according to the Sun.

His brother, Roberto de Assis Moreira is also expected to be allowed to leave Paraguay on the same plane if a judge accepts a new prosecution proposal.

This proposal is reportedly based around a two-year suspended jail sentence and a £85,000 fine.

The cash offer allegedly put to Ronaldinho is being described locally as ‘reparation of the social damage’ their behaviour caused,

According to South American reports, both men would have to plead guilty to a charge of entering the country with falsified passports as part of a so-called deal called a ‘salida process’ in Paraguay.

Cristiano Ronaldo ponders Juventus exit and PSG challenge. The draw of living in the city of Paris appeals to him more than Turin.

According to France Football magazine, Ronaldo was recently pondering the idea of playing for Paris Saint-Germain, something that has been in his head for a number of months.

France Football claims that Paris is an attractive proposition for the forward.

The magazine points to Cristiano at a dinner after facing Lokomotiv where he was not happy with the team’s performance, despite winning 2-1.

They say that that night he dared to “dream” about playing for PSG.

Linking up with Neymar and/or Kylian Mbappé, with whom the outlet assures us he has a good relationship, was a further stimulation for him.

And the draw of living in the city of Paris appeals to him more than Turin.

“Cristiano is not dissatisfied, but neither is he happy,” say France Football, quoting those close to the player, who also state that his departure from Juventus before confinement was “very likely”.

Now, the financial implication of the pandemic may complicate the operation, but if it is Cristiano’s desire to reach new heights in another of the big five leagues, few would rule it out.

Istanbul Basaksehir win Turkish Superlig for first time in their history. Former Premier League stars help end dominance of the league’s ‘Big Three’ clubs.

Istanbul Basaksehir won the Turkish Superlig for the first time on Sunday, snapping the dominance of the city’s ‘Big Three’ clubs Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas.

Basaksehir, formerly the Istanbul municipality team established in 1990, captured the title after a 1-0 win over Kayserispor. Second-placed Trabzonspor lost 4-3 to Konyaspor.

Basaksehir became only the sixth club to win the Superlig since its inception in 1959. They top the standings with 69 points, seven ahead of Trabzonspor with one round left.

Sivasspor were third, with Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in fourth, fifth and seventh respectively.

Playing in an empty stadium under novel coronavirus-related restrictions, Basaksehir’s players hugged and cheered after the game, which was interrupted twice by power outages.

TV footage showed fans, who watched the game on big screens sitting in plastic chairs outside the stadium, celebrating as the Trabzonspor match ended. That was just before the final whistle blew in the Basaksehir game.

They lit torches, hugged and chanted, waving flags in Basaksehir’s orange and blue colours outside Fatih Terim stadium.

Basaksehir stands in marked contrast to the city’s ‘Big Three’ clubs – Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas, who have won the Superlig title 54 times between them.

The Big Three have huge fan bases. While Basaksehir have few supporters to fill the stands in their 17,000 capacity stadium.
