The Blues have been chasing the former Ajax captain and have been in talks about a potential swap deal involving Christian Pulisic or Timo Werner plus cash.

Chelsea have had initial offers rejected, but boss Thomas Tuchel has not given up hope of signing the Holland International as he looks to bolster his defence after losing both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers.

Juventus chief Arrivabene has, however, appeared to have bolstered the Blues’ hopes of landing De Ligt this summer – saying they will be happy to do business as long as their asking price is met.

He told Tuttosport: ‘It’s impossible to keep players when they want to leave the club – but all the three parties in the negotiations have to be satisfied.’

Chelsea believe De Ligt’s release clause of £102million is too expensive, therefore they kickstarted the bidding with a player-plus-cash package worth around £40million, plus a choice of either Werner or Pulisic.

The contract of the former defender runs out on June 30 and there had been doubts about his stay at the Stadio Meazza due to different visions with club owners over the Rossoneri’s development. Ricky Massara will also commit his future to the Diavoli by signing a new contract.

The primary Italian papers report that both directors will sign a new deal until 2024 with an option for a further campaign.

Maldini had a positive meeting with future club owner Gerry Cardinale earlier this month and is determined to strengthen the team for next season despite a limited transfer budget.

Maldini had been negotiating with Sven Botman and Lille for several months, but the Dutch centre-back eventually decided to join Newcastle.

The Rossoneri want to avoid the same scenario with Renato Sanches and still hope to secure his services despite a strong interest from PSG who are ready to outbid the Serie A champions by offering €30m to Lille.

Chelsea are looking to strengthen Thomas Tuchel’s defensive options this summer following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

An offer of €40m (£34.4m) plus Timo Werner has been submitted by Chelsea but the bid has already been rejected by Juventus.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Juventus have told Chelsea to pay €70m (£60.3m) and include Werner as part of their deal for De Ligt.

Juventus are also prepared to sell De Ligt to Chelsea without including Werner in the deal but are looking for a fee in the region of €100m (£86.4m).

Chelsea, meanwhile, are understood to be confident that they will be able to conclude a deal for the Netherlands international this summer.

Juventus spent £67.5m on signing De Ligt from Ajax in 2019 and the defender still has two years remaining on his contract with the Italian club.

The 30-year-old arrived in the French capital for a world record fee in 2017, and earns upwards of £24m-a-year in wages, but has failed to help PSG break their Champions League duck during this period.

He is now weighing up a move away due to not feeling loved by the club, according to RMC Sport.

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi recently spoke out about the team’s shortcomings last season, and refused to confirm that Neymar would still be at the club in 2022-23.

Neymar felt targeted by the president’s comments, and this could have moved him closer to the exit door.

A transfer is already looking difficult, though, thanks to Neymar’s lucrative salary and a potentially sizeable transfer fee.

He is one of the highest-paid players in world football, and still has three years remaining on his deal at PSG, suggesting that he would not leave cheaply.

The Brazilian forward has been offered to Juventus, and his representatives have spoken to the Serie A giants, as reported by AS.

However, the Italian club have informed the players’ intermediaries that they are unable to afford his current wages, and it is looking unlikely that he will PSG this summer unless his pay demands change.

The Italy international is under contract until June 2024, so the matter is not considered to be urgent, but his future remains very much in doubt at the Stadio Olimpico.

Multiple sources including Sportitalia and the Corriere dello Sport maintain Tiago Pinto had dinner with Zaniolo’s agent this evening and they will also go on to have dinner later.

The initial reports coming in suggest that although Milan and Juventus may well be interested, they have not made any offers to Roma or Zaniolo.

In turn, the Giallorossi are in no rush to discuss a contract extension for Zaniolo, which would inevitably require a pay rise and possibly a release clause.

The versatile forward turns 23 next month and contributed eight goals with nine assists in 42 competitive matches for Jose Mourinho’s side this season.

The 22-year-old Netherlands defender has a £103m (€120m) release clause in his Juventus contract, which is due to expire in 2024, and the club will only entertain offers close to that mark.

Chelsea are looking for defensive reinforcements in this transfer window, having seen Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leave upon the expiration of their contracts.

Werner cost Chelsea £50m in June 2020 but has tended to struggle in front of goal for the Blues, netting just nine Premier League goals in two full seasons with the club,

Cristiano Ronaldo is looking for a way out of Manchester United

La Republicca just released an explosive report about Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential future.

Jose Mourinho eyeing move for Chelsea flop to strengthen Roma midfield

The 59-year-old ended an eventful maiden season with Roma by masterminding the club’s Europa Conference League triumph.

In the process, Mourinho has helped kickstart the careers of former Premier League stars Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham and he is looking to bolster his squad with experienced players this summer.

Mourinho has already been reunited with Nemanja Matic, who played for the Special one at both Manchester United and Chelsea, and, according to AS, Saul Niguez is next on his wishlist.

Roma came close to signing Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka 12 months ago but failed to agree a fee with the Gunners.

Xhaka subsequently signed a new deal after that move collapsed and with no sign of Roma looking to reignite their interest, Mourinho, according to AS, will instead turn his attention to Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.

The Spain international joined Chelsea last summer on a year-long loan but failed to make any sort of impact at Stamford Bridge.

He was hauled off at half-time during his first Chelsea appearance, with Thomas Tuchel later admitting he was well off the pace, and overall made just five Premier League appearances.

Saul has since returned to Atletico but is unlikely to feature prominently in Diego Simeone’s plans next season.

Atletico would be open to letting the player leave on loan again, but Roma would need the Spanish club to subside a significant portion of the 27-year-old’s wages in order to facilitate a move.
