Zinedine Zidane is also among the managers to have turned down an approach to take over at Newcastle United.
Following last week’s takeover by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Newcastle has been seeking out a replacement for Seve Bruce to lead the club into their new era.
A host of names have been linked with the role at St James’ Park, including France legend Zidane.
The 48-year-year-old left Real Madrid for the second time in his coaching career in in the summer after finishing the season without a trophy pipped to the La Liga title on the final day of the campaign.
According to The Mirror, Newcastle have made an approach for the former midfielder. Zidane has however already rebuffed their efforts to lure him to the north east as he is hoping to replace Didier Deschamps as France manager.
A number of high-profile managers have already turned down Newcastle.
Zidane’s former Juventus teammate Antonio Conte, who left his role as Inter Milan boss in the summer, reportedly has no interest in the job while Brendan Rodgers has today confirmed he remains fully committed to Leicester City.
