Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo believes Raul Jimenez could make a surprise return before the end of the season.

Jimenez required surgery after suffering a fractured skull following a clash of heads with David Luiz during the win at Arsenal on November 29.

Wolves head coach Nuno said he was “afraid” for Jimenez following the incident but was delighted to give a positive update on the 29-year-old Mexico international ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League tie with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Asked if Jimenez could play again this season, Nuno said: “We are truly positive that this can happen. It’s very good news the way he keeps improving day by day.

“Not only me but all the medical staff are surprised because he’s improving on all the concussion tests that we did previously two seasons ago. He’s doing really, really well.

“It’s Raul, we want Raul back healthy and then we will get back Raul as a player and an important player for the team. The big lift for us is just having him around.”

Chelsea appoint Thomas Tuchel after Frank Lampard sacking. The German won back-to-back Ligue 1 titles with Paris Saint-Germain.

Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as the new head coach of Chelsea.

The German was confirmed on Tuesday as the successor to Frank Lampard, who was sacked on Monday. The club said Tuchel had signed an 18-month contract “with the possibility of an extension”.

Chelsea also confirmed that Tuchel would take charge of his first training session on Tuesday evening and will be in the Stamford Bridge dugout for Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Wolves.

“I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff,” Tuchel told the club website.

“We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea. At the same time, I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football.

“I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family – it feels amazing!”

Club legend Lampard was relieved of his duties just 18 months into the job after a run of one win in five Premier League games left the Blues 11 points behind leaders Manchester United.

Lampard won three Premier League titles with Chelsea as a player under Mourinho, who expressed his sadness at the news before admitting it is a reality managers are always dreading.

“I am always sad when a colleague loses his job,” Mourinho said, “Frank is not just a colleague, he is an important person in my career, so I feel sorry he did (get sacked).

“But it is the brutality of football, especially modern football, so when you become a manager you know that sooner or later it is going to happen to you.”

Chelsea sack Frank Lampard as Thomas Tuchel set to take over. While Ralf Rangnick turned down interim managerial role.

Frank Lampard has been sacked by Chelsea after just 18 months as head coach and will be replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

In a statement, Chelsea said “results and performances have not met the club’s expectations, leaving the club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement”.

Lampard said he was “disappointed not to have had the time this season to take the club forward and bring it to the next level”.

Tuchel, who left Paris Saint-Germain in December and previously managed Borussia Dortmund, will sign an 18-month contract to be Chelsea’s next head coach, with an option to extend for a further 12 months.

Plans are underway to appoint him before the game against Wolves on Wednesday.

Tuchel is not exempt from quarantine protocols, but the FA will allow him to attend Chelsea’s training ground and matches if he tests negative to fly into the UK and then tests negative to enter the team’s bubble.

Jose Mourinho says Gareth Bale has to earn minutes on pitch. He has yet to rediscover his best form after returning on season-long loan.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho says he cannot just give Gareth Bale minutes on the pitch, insisting he has to earn them.

Bale has yet to make a major impact since re-joining Spurs on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

“I cannot give players minutes, minutes on the pitch is not something I can give, so I’m not going in this direction,” he said.

“We all know the difficulties he had for a couple seasons, we all know that he arrived injured, we all know that even this season (has been) a little bit up and down with small things.

“The most important thing for him is to be consistent, training without any problems and when a player is consistent in training, high intensity without any kind problems then the player is ready.”
