Mikel Arteta issues Bernd Leno injury update after comes off on stretcher. There was yet more injury woe for Arsenal after the German went down in agony in the first-half of their defeat to Brighton and was replaced by Emiliano Martinez

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says it is still not clear what the extent of Bernd Leno’s injury is. The German goalkeeper left the field on a stretcher during the Gunners’ 2-1 defeat to Brighton.

Leno went down clutching his knee after landing awkwardly following a nudge by the Seagulls’ match-winner Neal Maupay. And he gesticulated furiously towards the French forward as he was carried off.

There are fears that Leno could now miss the rest of the season. But speaking to BT Sport after the game, Arteta said it was too early to tell how serious the injury is. While he refused blaming Maupay for the damage.

“It doesn’t look good but we don’t know anything yet,” he said. “It is too far from me, I haven’t seen the actions. I always believe players don’t have intentions to injure people and I am sure he did not intend to do that.”
