Arsenal faces injury crisis with Pablo Mari to miss rest of the season. Pablo Mari was forced off in the first half of Arsenal’s game against Manchester City with an ankle injury.

Mikel Arteta will have to make do without Pablo Mari for the final nine games of the season as the defender suffered serious ankle ligament damage in the game against Manchester City and he may require surgery.

Arsenal faces injury crisis

The Gunners faced a mini injury crisis in the first half against Pep Guardiola’s side on Wednesday. Because both Granit Xhaka and Mari were off the field with injuries.

Xhaka was taken off on a stretcher after just six minutes and Mari hobbled off the pitch moments later after appearing to damage his achilles.

Despite the 3-0 defeat, Arsenal have an outside chance of climbing up the table for a European spot.

But Arteta will have to do so with Mari, who has now been ruled out for the rest of the season.

It leaves the Arsenal boss with a selection headache for Saturday’s game against Brighton.

David Luiz recieved a straight red card after bringing down Riyad Mahrez. He will be unavailable for the next three games.

Sokratis was also out of the game against City at the last minute after picking up a knock in training. It is not yet clear whether the 32-year-old will be fit for selection against Brighton on Saturday.

But there is some positive news on Rob Holding, who is reportedly in contention on making a return to the side.

Mari’s injury though will cause further problems for Arteta in the final nine Premier League fixtures.

Luiz’s display against City has raised further questions about his future at the club and whether he will be involved again this season.

But the Brazilian may need to be called upon with Mari out of action.

Shkodran Mustafi is currently the club’s only available natural centre-back. However, Holding’s return would be a welcome bit of good news for Arteta.
