David Luiz will never play for Arsenal again after latest horror show, predicts Carragher.
David Luiz will never play for Arsenal again after Wednesday’s horror return to Premier League action, Jamie Carragher has predicted.
Luiz has less than two weeks to extend his current Arsenal deal before June 30, having arrived from Chelsea last summer on a one-year contract.
Luiz was at fault for Manchester City’s opening goal in the first half before being sent off in the second, dragging down Riyad Mahrez inside the area with Kevin De Bruyne scoring the resulting penalty.
“I don’t think we’ll ever see him in the Premier League ever again – and he does provide us with entertainment whatever you think,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“He’s going to be banned now for three games and I don’t see how Mikel Arteta, after a performance like that, can put him back in, in any circumstance – certainly not if they’re going for the Champions League.
“The mistakes he’s made tonight – put a kid in. I know they’ve got injury problems there… but I think that’s the last we’ll see of him.
“There is an option for Arsenal to give him a contract, but there’s no way David Luiz is getting a contract. I said that before the game.”
